“The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become.” – Heracitius
This is one of my favorite quotes. It’s simple and to the point and it brutally exposes what should be obvious to everyone. We all make choices in what we do, how we do it, what we think about and how we act on those thoughts.
Multiple Myeloma takes so much from us physically. There isn’t a whole lot we can do in that department except to continue getting treatments, getting into clinical trials and fighting through all that comes with that. We can choose how to react to that and how to face those battles.
A positive attitude doesn’t make the disease any more pleasant or the difficulties any less challenging, but it does make everything else so much better. It’s been 535 days since I was diagnosed with MGUS. I’ve gone from MGUS to SMM to MM and now I’m 64 days post SCT. To many, that would be a lot. To me…. it is a lot. But the sun has risen 535 days since diagnosis. There has been 535 fresh starts to do something amazing. 535 choices on how I was going to look at the world. 535 chances to do something positive.
At the end of the day it’s all that matters. What did I do to improve my situation or make things better for those around me. What are you going to do today to do the same?
